The Congress on Thursday (April 23, 2026) wrote to the Election Commission (ECI) questioning the issuance of a show-cause notice to party president Mallikarjun Kharge, alleging “ulterior motives” and a “casual, routine manner” in the notice issued to Mr. Kharge.

In a letter addressed to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the two Election Commissioners, Congress general secretary (communications) Jairam Ramesh flagged that two notices bearing the same reference number and date — April 22 — had been issued but signed by different officials, with no clarity on whether one had been withdrawn.
