Former Bihar Chief Minister and JD(U) national president Nitish Kumar addresses a Janata Dal (United) legislature party meeting, in Patna, on April 20, 2026

The Janata Dal (United) on Monday authorised its national president Nitish Kumar to select the new legislature party leader following his resignation as Chief Minister of Bihar. The decision was unanimously taken during the meeting, in the presence of Mr. Kumar.

Following the meeting held at 1, Anne Marg, JD(U) chief spokesperson and MLC Neeraj Kumar said, “National president Nitish Kumar ji has been authorised to select the leader of the Legislature Party. The Legislature Party unanimously empowered him to undertake this task.”
