Vilavancode constituency, a diverse electorate with semi urban and rural areas and with some parts of the constituency sharing its border with neighbouring State Keralam, the region is known for lush greenery, rubber and coconut plantations and its proximity to the scenic Western Ghats.

The region has been a stronghold of national parties such as Indian National Congress (INC) and CPI(M), with the power alternating between them since 1957, except in 1971, when Congress veteran R. Ponnappa Nadar was elected from INC(O). Notably the region has remained a bastion of INC, a fact reaffirmed in its victory in the 2024 bypoll. This came after the former INC MLA S. Vijayadharani, who had represented the constituency since 2011, joined the BJP in 2024.
