Telangana Legislative Council chairman Gutta Sukender Reddy on Thursday (September 18, 2025) said that the resignation letter of MLC K Kavitha is still with him.

Mr. Reddy said he spoke to Ms Kavitha over the phone and asked her to reconsider the decision as it was taken in an emotional state. There is no development after that, and the Council Chairman is yet to take any action on the resignation.

The Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) suspended MLC Kavitha, also the daughter of party president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), on September 2, citing “anti-party activities” and “damaging the party.” She resigned the very next day on September 3 stating that she had no greed for position or power.

The suspension was the result of her public criticism of senior BRS leaders, particularly accusing former Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao and former MP J. Santosh Kumar of corruption and conspiring with Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to “tarnish her father’s image” in the Kaleshwaram Irrigation project controversy.

The suspension decision came after internal discussions led by Mr. KCR with senior leaders. However, Ms Kavitha spared her brother and BRS working president K T Rama Rao while targeting her two cousins, T Harish Rao and Santosh Kumar Joginapally. She accused them of deliberately sidelining her and breaking the Kalvakuntla family unity.

Continues activities with Telangana Jagruthi

After her suspension and resignation episode, Ms Kavitha continued her political activity through the cultural organisation Telangana Jagruthi, which she floated during the Telangana agitation.

With the Dasara festival around and the Bathukamma festival, an integral part of the Dasara celebrations, Ms Kavitha has intensified her activities through Bathukamma, which brought her closer to the womenfolk.

Interestingly, despite her family keeping her away, the residents of Chintamadaka village invited her to the Bathukamma celebrations. Chintamadaka is the native village of Mr KCR. Ms Kavitha has also announced her schedule for Bathukamma celebrations this year with programmes across Telangana and also a couple of foreign countries.
