Although electricity demand is running high this summer, the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) is not contemplating restrictions on power supply, KSEB chairperson and managing director Minhaj Alam said after a meeting held on Friday to assess the power situation.

“This time the demand is high. But we have made all the arrangements for supply from central stations and purchases through power exchanges,” Mr. Alam said. The KSEB is also exploring options to procure power through the term-ahead market (TAM). According to him, peak demand touching 6,000 megawatts (MW) this season was not unexpected. On April 14, Kerala’s peak electricity demand had touched 6012 MW, an all-time high for the State.
