Residents of Srinivasapuram (Mullikuppam and Mullima Nagar), a fishing hamlet near Foreshore Estate, staged a protest against DMK candidate for Mylapore, Dha Velu, on Wednesday when he went to canvass for votes. Waving black flags and wearing black masks, they stood at the Amma temple at the entrance to the fishing hamlet.

“We want the government to return to us the lands belonging to our village, where the housing board had constructed houses for government employees. The village owns those lands. We also want houses for those who don’t have houses. The DMK, in its manifesto for the 2021 elections, had promised to construct houses for us. That remains on print,” said Sekar of Srinivasapuram.
