Even as several parts of Kochi reel under water crisis, the 190-million litres per day (MLD) water treatment plant of the Kerala Water Authority (KWA), which is expected to resolve drinking water shortage, continues to await government approval. The proposed plant along with the ₹2,000-crore comprehensive sewage treatment system has been awaiting government approval for the past several months.
KWA sources said that approval of the two projects, which are essential to address Kochi’s drinking water crisis and ensure proper sewage treatment, has been pending for some time.
