Fishermen in Rameswaram have started winding up the activities in the jetties around the region as the 61-day annual fishing ban period is to commence from April 15, 2026 (Wednesday).

Under the Tamil Nadu Marine Fishing Regulation Act 1983, considering the breeding season of fish and to protect fishery resources, a fishing ban is implemented every year along the East Coast of Tamil Nadu for 61 days from April 15 to June 14 (inclusive of both days), prohibiting fishing by mechanised boats and trawlers.
