The sweltering summer heat has driven up electricity consumption in April, creating anxious moments for the State’s power sector.

On April 13, the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) recorded a daily consumption of 112.16 million units (mu) and a peak demand of 5,933 megawatts (MW). The peak demand is an all-time high for the State, according to load dispatch centre data. The previous record demand was 5,802 MW, recorded on March 25 this year. The State’s highest-ever daily consumption, however, remains 115.94 mu, recorded on May 3, 2024. Kerala had recorded a daily consumption of 101.51 mu on April 12, 106.88 mu on April 11, and 107.7 mu on April 10.
