The war of words between the Trinamool Congress and the BJP intensified on Monday (April 13, 2026), with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee countering Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remark that all the candidates contesting the Assembly polls on his party ticket were “Modi”.

Speaking at a public meeting on Monday (April 13), Ms. Banerjee said if Mr. Modi wanted to be the face of the party in the West Bengal election, he should first resign as Prime Minister. “Modiji is saying he is the candidate for all the 294 seats. You must resign as Prime Minister and tell the people that you will be the Chief Minister of West Bengal and they should vote for you,” the Trinamool Congress chairperson said.
