Ernakulam District Congress Committee president Muhammed Shiyas has accused the CPI(M) district secretary of attempting to foist the responsibility of that party’s internal power struggle on the Congress.

Addressing the media here on Thursday (September 18, 2025) evening, Mr. Shiyas said that neither the Congress nor its official social media handles had any involvement in the cyberattack against the LDF’s K.J. Shine. Reports published by newspapers were subsequently circulated on social media. “How can the Congress be held accountable for that?” he asked.

Mr. Shiyas described the CPI(M) district secretary’s statement as disgraceful and called for its retraction. He added that it would be better for the district secretary to investigate how the news reached social media and newspapers. Those reports pertained to conspiracies rooted in the CPI(M)’s internal political power struggle. There is no justification for the district secretary, who ought to be examining disputes among party leaders, to shift blame onto the Congress. “What is the rationale for making unfounded allegations against the Congress through the media?” Mr. Shiyas asked.

“The Congress and its leaders have, in recent times, taken firm stances against assaults targeting women and children. The public is convinced that the Congress has consistently stood by the victims. The truth cannot always be hidden,” he said.
