The Shivamogga district administration, on Saturday, issued a notification banning the movement of vehicles on Hulikal Ghat (State Highway 52), following the recent incident in which a mound of soil caved in, resulting in the death of three people.

Abhishek V., Additional DC of Shivamogga, in the notification, stated that a project to construct a protective wall was taken up to avoid landslides at the Hulikal Ghat, as there were instances of landslides during the previous rainy season. However, on April 9, another incident of landslides occurred. At present, the stretch is not suitable for vehicles. “Until the ongoing work is completed, the movement of all types of vehicles on the road has been prohibited, as per the recommendations of the chief engineer (Communication and Building) of the central zone,” the notification stated.
