Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra was cross-questioned by the Privileges Committee of Maharashtra Legislature on Thursday (April 9, 2026) in a breach of privilege matter being examined against him. He was asked 24 questions during the proceedings, and was told that the matter would be looked at differently if he tendered an unconditional apology. Mr. Kamra later told The Hindu that he had refused to tender an unconditional apology.

He had appeared before the committee a few times before this. The last time, the matter was postponed after Shiv Sena(UBT) leader Sushama Andhare had sought an extension. A breach of privilege motion has been moved against both of them for their comments against Maharashtra deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

On Thursday (April 9, 2026), Mr. Kamra appeared before the committee at 5 p.m. His statement was recorded for an hour. “Cross-questioning of Pravin Darekar and Kunal Kamra took place today. (BJP leader Pravin Darekar had moved the motion against Mr. Kamra). In the 24 questions asked to Kunal Kamra, we tried to tell him about the mistakes he made. We also asked him about his constitutional rights, about the rights of the privileges committee. We have told him that if he tenders an unconditional apology, the committee will think of this differently. His lawyer has said that he will consult with him and will send a reply by mail,” head of the privileges committee Prasad Lad said.
