Former Gujarat-cadre Indian Police Service (IPS) officer M.L. Ninama and ex-Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Raju Karpada joined the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday (APril 9, 2026), ahead of the upcoming local body elections in the State.

Mr. Ninama, who recently took voluntary retirement three months before his scheduled superannuation, joined the BJP at an event in Shamlaji in Aravalli district. He was inducted into the party in the presence of Minister of State P.C. Baranda, who holds the Tribal Development, Food and Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs portfolios.

A 59-year-old from the Scheduled Tribe community, Mr. Ninama hails from north Gujarat’s Aravalli district. Originally a State Police Service officer, he was later promoted to the IPS and most recently served as Inspector General of Police in the Traffic Branch in Gandhinagar. He was due to retire on June 30.
