Justice E.V. Venugopal of the Telangana High Court on Monday issued notices to the State and the Central governments in a writ petition which sought a direction to reconsider the ‘best police station ranking awarded to Shamirpet police station of Malkajgiri commissionerate on northern fringes of Hyderabad.

The petition was filed by Lokahitha society based at Medchal-Malkajgiri district seeking direction to consider its representation given to the Centre and the State to review the 7th rank awarded to Shamirpet police station nationwide and the best police station in Telangana State. The petitioner society also wanted the court to order an inquiry by the Vigilance Commission into the alleged corruption in the police station.

According to the society represented by its president Venkat Swamy, the best ranking was in conflict with the experiences of corruption, inaction and abuse of power faced by members of the society. The petitioner pointed out that a Sub-Inspector of the police station M. Parashuram was caught taking ₹22,000 bribe from a person in August 2025.

The same SI was accused of accepting ₹2 lakh bribe from the same complainant. Some members of the society lodged complaints about illegal occupation of lands but the officers did not respond, the petitioner stated. It was only after members of the society moved the High Court, the police officials registered cases, the petitioner said.

The matter was posted for further hearing on April 20.
