Leaders of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) on Friday demanded immediate suspension of a Circle Inspector (CI) in Machilipatnam for allegedly using “inappropriate language” against party coordinator Perni Krishnamurthy and called for a strict disciplinary action.

Addressing a press conference at the party office, Krishna district YSRCP president Perni Nani, along with former legislators Kaile Anil Kumar and Simhadri Ramesh, and party coordinators including Mr. Krishnamurthy, Chakravarthi, and Uppala Ramesh, alleged that certain police officials had overstepped their authority.

‘Politically charged remarks’

Mr. Kumar criticised CI Parameswara Rao for making “politically charged remarks” and using “offensive language”, stating that such behaviour was unbecoming of a police officer. He also alleged that the State had descended into “lawlessness” under the current administration, where dissenting voices were being suppressed.

Another YSRCP ex-legislator Mr. Simhadri Ramesh echoed the demand for the CI’s suspension, accusing the police of attempting to justify misconduct through press briefings. Meanwhile, Mr. Uppala Ramesh alleged that police were acting as “agents of the ruling party”, while Mr. Chakravarthi described the incident as a “deliberate provocation” aimed at silencing the Opposition.

Meanwhile, the leaders stated that they would continue to question “corrupt” police officers and asserted that no amount of alleged false cases would deter their struggle for the people.

Police intimidating citizens: Nani

Mr. Nani alleged that police personnel were supporting the ruling party and intimidating citizens, which he described as “shameful”.

He also demanded that authorities produce requisition letters related to recent demolition drives in the Machilipatnam constituency, where hundreds of houses and structures were reportedly razed.

Raising further concerns, the leaders questioned why CCTV footage in a case involving a nursing student had not been released, suggesting a lack of transparency. They argued that such actions were eroding public trust in the police system.
