In view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Chennai on Friday (April 3, 2026) and Saturday (April 4), the Greater Chennai Police have declared areas around Meenambakkam, Guindy, and the routes to be used by the VVIP as ‘Red Zones’ to ensure heightened security.

Officials said that the restrictions will be in force for two days, during which flying of drone cameras and other unmanned aerial objects will be strictly prohibited in the designated areas, except for those operated as part of authorised government arrangements.

The police have urged the public to comply with the restrictions and avoid operating any such aerial devices in the notified zones during the specified period.

Authorities also pointed out that a broader prohibitory order is already in effect across the Greater Chennai Police limits under provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. As per the order, the use of drones, remote-controlled microlight aircraft, paragliders, paramotors, hand gliders, and hot air balloons has been banned from March 24 to May 22.

The restrictions have been imposed as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order and to ensure the safety and security of the visiting dignitary, police added.
