Daily deficit of 55 MTs auto LPG in Telangana; Uttam places three requests before Centre to safeguard drivers’ livelihoods

Telangana Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy wrote a letter to Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, with three requests to address the issues with shortage of Liquefied Natural Gas (LPG) shortage in Telangana. The issues, specifically faced by autos depended on LPG, is affecting livelihoods of the drivers and their families, and public transport too.

80% LPGs to autos supplied by private outlets

Citing available data, Mr. Reddy said in the letter dated on Wednesday (March 30, 2026) that there are around one lakh autos in the State dependent on LPG. The gas is distributed in the State by Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and private operators. The PSUs including Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPLC) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), together have 33 outlets, with market share of 20%. The remaining 80% of the share is serviced by private operators including Super Gas, Go Gas, Total Energies, Prime Gas, Extra Gas, Aegis Gas, and Uni Gas, through 110 outlets across the State.

55MTs per day shortfall

“Due to prevailing supply constraints, there is a shortfall of around 55 MTs per day of Auto LPG, a majority of private outlets are facing a dry-out, leading to disruptions in public transport services and consequent public disorder,” the Minister said in the letter.

The three requests

He urged the Union Minister to ramp up the Auto LPG availability at the PSU outlets, and give immediate instructions to IOCL, HPCL and BPCL to supply the deficit LPG to the private entities. Mr. Reddy also said that while the PSU outlets charge ₹75 per litre of auto LPG, private marketing companies are selling at ₹93 per litre and requested for regulatory measures to prevent unwarranted price increase.

On Monday, the Minister directed senior officials to find ways to increase the operations of Hyderabad Metro Rail and Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) buses as people are finding issues in finding autos on ride-hailing apps.
