Bhongir Parliament member Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy raised the issue of pending sports infrastructure proposals submitted by the Telangana government to the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

In the Parliament on Monday, Mr. Reddy sought clarity from the Union government regarding the status of key proposals, including the upgradation of the G.M.C. Balayogi Athletic Stadium at Gachibowli, the development of a shooting range at the University of Hyderabad campus, and a request for central financial assistance to establish a Sports Hub and a Sports University in Telangana.

The MP said these projects were crucial for strengthening sports infrastructure in the State and for nurturing emerging talent. He urged the Centre to expedite the process of approvals and extend necessary financial assistance to support Telangana’s growing potential in sports.

In its reply, the Union government stated that sports was a State subject, and the primary responsibility for the development of sports infrastructure lies with the respective State governments. However, it noted that financial assistance is provided based on eligibility criteria and submission of proposals under existing schemes such as the Khelo India Scheme and other relevant programmes.

Mr. Reddy urged the Centre to adopt a proactive and supportive approach in considering Telangana’s proposals, given the Chief Minister’s prime interest in sports and dream of producing at least one medal winner from Telangana in the next Olympics.
