A video has gone viral on social media where a local Trinamool Congress leader is seen attacking a school headmaster inside the school premises in West Bengal’s Kakdwip area in South 24 Parganas district. Opposition party leaders have launched a harsh criticism against the ruling party leaders after the video went viral.

In the CCTV footage, the headmaster Milan Kanti Pal is seen running inside the school corridor as the TMC leader is seen physically attacking him and then chases him through the school campus.

The incident occurred at the Kakdwip Birendra Bidyaniketan on Tuesday (September 16, 2025). The assaulted teacher, Mr. Pal, told a local media channel that other CCTV footage from his room where the assault started has been deleted by unknown suspects.

The president of the school’s management committee and local Trinamool panchayat member Tridib Barui is the prime suspect in this case.

“They were collecting money from students without informing the managing committee. When I asked him questions, he assaulted me,” Mr. Barui said refuting allegations of him assaulting Mr. Pal.

However, Mr. Pal said that the TMC panchayat member’s allegations against him are false. “The Trinamool leader brought a paper where several false accusations were made against me. He wanted me to sign that document. After I refused to sign, he assaulted me,” Mr Pal said.

BJP West Bengal State president Samik Bhattacharya shared the video on X and called the incident shameful.

“Trinamool’s leaders are not sparing educational institutions either. The teaching community is insecure today. This terror in the state’s education sector is revealing the true face of the Trinamool Congress,” Mr. Bhattacharya further wrote.

Senior Congress leader and former State president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury also condemned the incident. He raised questions about the education system in West Bengal and said that academics and the future generations in the State have been destroyed under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. “Who will ever abide by this teacher after they are humiliated like this?” Mr. Chowdhury asked.

Trinamool Congress spokesperson and former Rajya Sabha MP Kunal Ghosh said that this is an isolated incident which is being investigated. “Whoever has done this wrong, we will take action against them,” Mr. Ghosh added.
