Former MP and don turned politician Anand Mohan on Saturday (March 28, 2026) asserted that Nitish Kumar’s departure from Bihar politics will affect Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) more than Janata Dal-(United).
Mr. Mohan pointed out that during the assembly election, there was a slogan of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) “pacchis se tees, phir se Nitish (From 2025 to 2030, once again Nitish)” and based on that people gave the mandate.
He added that due to this decision, a wrong message has gone in the voters of Other Backward Class (OBC) and Extremely Backward Class (EBC).
As per 2023, caste-based survey, OBC population in the State is 27.1286% while, EBC comprises 36.0148%. Both comprise more than 63% of the State’s population.
Mr. Mohan’son Chetan Anand is a JD-(U) MLA from Nabinagar Assembly seat and he spoke to the press at Patna airport when the reporters asked him about the next Chief Minister of Bihar.
“Leaders sitting on top will take the decision over the next Chief Minister but people like me and many other supporters are disappointed. Those who are thinking that they will get the political benefit, it’s nothing as such. JD-(U) off-course will face the loss but the decision will affect BJP more,”Mr. Mohan said.
He claimed that the Opposition will get the benefit once Nitish Kumar departs from Bihar politics.
Mr. Mohan said, “I am saying that the Opposition will get the benefit because the decision has sent a wrong message among the voters of OBC and EBC. Ever since it has been announced, I have been meeting people and I can see the anger on their faces. they are not happy.”
Expressing his apprehension, Mr. Mohan added that in days to come or in near future, the ruling parties will not get any benefit from the decision of Nitish Kumar leaving Bihar politics and moving to Rajya Sabha.
He indirectly took a dig at senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah without mentioning his name.
“Those who consider themselves as ‘Chanakya’ and experts in diplomatic decision, patting their own back for creating this situation, I think it will only give political loss. The decision is not good for the health of NDA in Bihar, “Mr. Mohan said.
On the entry of Nitish’s son Nishant Kumar in the active politics before the senior Mr. Kumar moving to Rajya Sabha, Mr. Mohan termed that Junior Mr. Kumar has played the role of ‘Shock Absorber” at his juncture.
He however made it straight that talk of Nishant getting the post of Deputy Chief Minister in the new government was not welcoming as the post hardly has any value.
Mr. Mohan indirectly suggested that Nishant should replace Nitish instead of any other leader.
“It’s good, Nishant would be the part of the government but what is this Uup-Mukhyamanatri (Deputy Chief Minister), Uup-Mukhyamanatri means Chup- Mukhyamanatri (Silence Chief Minister). He should be given the full-fledged responsibility. There is re-thinking over how to compensate for this move,”Mr. Mohan said.
He, however, asserted that Samrat Choudhary is the better option in terms of maintaining the caste equation of Luv-Kush (Kurmi and Kushwaha – Koiri caste) communities.
Mr. Mohan’s wife Lovely Anand who is an MP from Sheohar Parliamentary suggested that Nitish Kumar should return his focus to Bihar so that the state can further develop. He asserted that Mr. Kumar has transformed the face of Bihar, having started from scratch.
Though, Nitish Kumar himself had expressed his desire to go to Rajya Sabha by writing a post on his ‘X’ handle but Ms. Anand said that she has no information whether Nitish Kumar made the decision to go to the Rajya Sabha on his own.
