The dream of a school for Sri Ram Nagar Colony in Banjara Hills division would be a reality soon, thanks to Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi.

With a resident population of about 7,000, the basti lacked a school and its children had to commute far, or were forced to drop out. Ms. Vijayalakshmi responded to petitions by the residents and identified 240 sq. yards of government land parcel suitable for constructing a school for the colony.

After further consultations, officials of the Shaikpet Revenue Office on Wednesday handed over the site to the Education Department. It was said that proposals for construction of the school were also prepared and its works will be funded by the District Collector.

For the families of Sri Ram Nagar, who expressed gratitude to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and Ms. Vijayalakshmi, the education of their children will not be a burden anymore. “Our dream will be realised soon, and we will forever be thankful to the officials,” a resident said.
