Minister for Small Scale Industries and Public Enterprises Sharanabasappa Darshanapur has said that the State Cabinet has taken a decision to set up a Ministry to supervise development works taking place under grants from the Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board.
He was addressing a gathering after unfurling the National Flag in Yadgir to mark Kalyana Karnataka Utsav celebrations on Wednesday.
“There has been a long-pending demand from the people of the region for setting up an exclusive Ministry for Kalyana Karnataka development. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has considered the demand and announced a Ministry for the purpose,” he said.
He further said that another key decision that has been taken is to increase the height of the Alamatti dam to 524 m from 519 m. It has been decided to release a compensation of ₹40 lakh for land under irrigation and ₹30 lakh for dry land, as it is expected that 75,563 acres of land will be submerged by the backwaters.
The Minister recalled the freedom struggle against the Hyderabad Nizam and said that the Nizams surrendered themselves to the Indian Army during Operation Polo and the Hyderabad Karnataka region was liberated from the Nizams.
Kalyana Karnataka region should be developed like the old Mysuru region in all sectors. The State government is committed to developing the region and it is releasing ₹5,000 crore every year for the purpose, he said.
