The Election Commission of India on Wednesday said nominations for the upcoming Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu can be filed between March 30, the date of notification, and April 6, the last date for receipt of nominations.

However, since four public holidays fall between these dates, effectively only four days have been allotted for filing nominations.

According to an official press release, nominations can be filed between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. It also said that since March 31, April 1, April 3, and April 5 have been declared public holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, nominations will not be received on these dates.

The public holidays fall on March 31 on account of Mahavir Jayanthi, April 1 due to annual closing of accounts of banks, April 3 due to Good Friday, and April 5 (Sunday).
