Speakers at a meeting titled ‘Grievances of the Unemployed’ organised by the All-India Youth Federation (AIYF) on Wednesday (September 17) brought to the fore the miseries of the youth waiting endlessly for jobs in the State and demanded that the government release a White Paper on vacant posts in various departments in the State.
Speaking at the conference, CPI State general secretary K. Ramakrishna, political analyst T. Lakshmi Narayana and former national secretary of AIYF G. Eshwaraiah demanded a White Paper on the over 3.2 lakh vacancies in various departments across the State.
They accused the TDP-led coalition government of “failure to address the issue of unemployment” and said it had not only failed to fulfil its promise to create 20 lakh jobs and grant unemployment allowance, but was instead pushing privatisation policies.
They criticised the government for removing volunteers, ration vehicle workers and Beverages Corporation employees, and for conducting the DSC exam only for 16,000 posts, while there were 54,000 vacant posts in the State. They demanded a special DSC for 2,260 posts, steps to fill librarian and backlog SC/ST posts, and recruitment to 3,480 professor posts in public universities.
Quoting the government’s Skill Census Survey, they said 1.56 crore people in the 18–50 age group in the state were unemployed. They urged the government to discuss the issue in the Assembly, form a Cabinet sub-committee on unemployment, pay unemployment allowance and immediately fill vacant teaching and non-teaching posts.
