JAGTIAL

In a last-ditch effort to placate sulking Congress senior leader T. Jeevan Reddy, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud, on Tuesday, met Mr. Reddy in Jagtial town to prevail upon him to drop his move to quit the party.

Accompanied by AICC Secretary Sachin Sawant, Mr. Goud called on Mr. Jeevan Reddy at his residence in Jagtial, and urged him to reconsider his decision and continue in the party.

The meeting comes a day ahead of Mr. Reddy’s scheduled meeting with his followers and well-wishers on Wednesday to formally resign from the Congress party and discuss his future course of action.

Mr. Reddy made an announcement to this effect on Sunday citing the ‘inevitable situation’ created by what he termed as ‘unwarranted interference’ of Jagtial MLA M. Sanjay Kumar in the party affairs, ‘undermining’ the interests of the loyal party cadres. He has been openly airing his discontent against Mr. Sanjay ever since the latter started closely associating himself with people at the helm in ruling Congress dispensation for over one year.

Speaking to the media after meeting Mr. Reddy, the TPCC chief said that he is a senior Congress leader with a vast experience and more than four-decades of association with the party.

“We made an appeal to him not to sever his 43-year-old association with the Congress and continue in the party,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Reddy reiterated that he would take a decision on his future course of action during Wednesday’s meeting in consultation with his followers and well-wishers.

He again cited the reasons such as increasing ‘dominance’ of the new entrants into the party and efforts to ‘isolate’ the committed party cadre in Jagtial district at the behest of ‘defectors’ from other parties for his decision to quit the Congress party.
