Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has asserted that Telangana will not compromise on its rightful share of waters on Godavari and Krishna rivers and said a strategy is being formulated to safeguard the State’s interests.

“We are ready for a legal battle and rectify the errors committed by the previous Government in sharing of Krishna river water and achieve firm rights over every drop of water,” he said. Clear directions have been issued to engineers and legal experts and strategy to achieve Telangana’s share of 904 tmc ft will be put in place.

The Chief Minister was speaking at the function on Wednesday (September 17, 2025) to mark Hyderabad State’s merger with Indian Union, celebrated as Praja Palana Dinotsavam (people’s governance day).

SLBC ayacut 3.5 lakh acres

While compensating for the loss caused by the negligence of the previous rulers, the Government was working out plans to attain permanent rights on water. The Government was therefore focusing on Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) project as it would enable irrigation facilities to 3.5 lakh acres and address the fluoride problem in Nalgonda district. “We will not back down in spite of the propaganda by some vested interests. We will stand upright in countering such propaganda and resolve the issues,” he said.

He outlined a spree of welfare and development schemes launched by the Congress Government including Indiramma Indlu, crop loan waiver, Rythu Bharosa and others since it took over the reins on December 7, 2023. The day, according to him, marked yet another independence day for the people of the State who had seen the State going back to dictatorial rule. “We witnessed the State plunging into deep crisis during the 10 year dictatorial rule which suppressed the aspirations and ambitions of the people,” he said adding the people’s Government had taken steps to ensure that there was no scope for favouritism or nepotism in the administration.

Education policy to make students compete globally

While reshaping the development pattern for accelerated growth, the Government is focused on education, sports and skill development enabling the youth to compete globally, not just confining their abilities here. “We are soon coming up with a new education policy that aims at making our students globally competitive,” he said.

Mr. Reddy explained his Government’s plans to develop Bharat Future City as a world class city owing to the congestion in infrastructure and other facilities in the State capital and surrounding areas. The new city was being planned in 30,000 acres and vested interests were trying to provoke farmers against the Government. Farmers and elected representatives of the area should join hands with the Government in taking up the development of the new city as it was conceived keeping in view the requirements of generations to come.

“People should be cautious against such forces which are trying to create obstacles in the development process for selfish political ends,” he said.
