HYDERABAD

A delegation of successful candidates of NEET and their parents led by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders D. Sravan and D. Vinay Bhaskar requested the State Government to immediately review of GOs 33 and 150 issued by the Health, Medical and Family Welfare Department in July 2024 and September 2025 on MBBS and BDS admissions.

They submitted a memorandum to Chief Secretary to the Government K. Ramakrishna Rao and explained how Telangana students are losing the local candidate status in the MBBS and BDS admission and requested him to grant some concession in the matter of Telangana origin.

The explained that GO 33 mandates 4 years continuous study or residence in Telangana prior to the qualifying exam to be treated as local candidate for admission into MBBS and BDS courses for the academic year 2025-26.

It was further amended by issuing GO 150 to include candidates who pursued part of their education outside Telangana on account of the service of their parents in government – All India Services, Defence/Paramilitary forces or Corporations of Telangana – shall also be treated as local candidates on submission of due certification from the competent authority.

The amendment was upheld by the Supreme Court on September 1 with a ruling that the State Government is competent to frame their own rules for providing reservations in medical admissions.

They suggested that the government could further amend the Rule 3 (a) of Telangana Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Rules 2017 as also the two GOs to include the students of Telangana domicile, who are being deprived of the status of local candidate despite they pursuing their entire education in Telangana, except for a few years.
