About 180 students from Teja Vidyalaya in Kodad (Suryapet district) have written to Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres, urging his intervention in stopping the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran.

In their letters, the students highlighted that wars mainly affect ordinary citizens, especially children, causing deaths, disabilities and displacement. They also noted that the impact of the conflict is being felt in India through shortages of gas and fuel, leading to rising prices of all essential commodities. The students wrote that missile attacks on crude oil extraction facilities pose serious environmental risks and appealed for the conflict to be resolved through dialogue.

The letter-writing activity, organised by their teachers Jose Samuel and Mohammed Arif, was conducted as part of the school’s weekly creative programme. Students from classes 6 to 10 participated in the initiative.

Principal Ramadevi commended the students for advocating peace. She informed that the letters were being posted to the UN office in Delhi.
