The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday (March 15, 2026) announced the complete schedule for Assam Assembly elections. The State will conduct polls in a single phase on April 9, 2026, with vote counting scheduled for May 4, ECI noted.
As many as 31,486 polling stations in the north-eastern State have been set up for the conduct of the Assembly polls. Of the 126 Assembly seats, nine have been reserved for Schedule Castes and 19 for Scheduled Tribes. Around 2.50 crore electors are set to cast their franchise in 2026 assembly polls, said the notification.

The ECI said 5.75 lakh young electors (18+ years of age) are set to cast their vote for the first time in State Assembly elections. Similarly, 4.16 lakh electors with disabilities, 343 third genders, and 1.04 lakh senior citizens will take part in the polls.

Last Date for making Nominations: March 23, 2026 (Monday)
Date for the scrutiny of Nominations: March 24, 2026 (Tuesday)
Last date for the withdrawal of candidatures: March 26, 2026 (Thursday)
Date of Poll: April 9, 2026 (Thursday)
Date of Counting: May 4, 2026 (Monday)
Date before which election shall be completed: May 6, 2026 (Wednesday)
