Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan on Wednesday (March 11, 2026) asked States to ensure protection of LPG supply chain by ramping up security for the infrastructure concerned and personnel.

The chief secretaries and director generals of police (DGPs) of all States were told to counter “false rumours regarding LPG shortages” and were further advised to closely monitor social media platforms and take prompt action to remove fake news that spreads rumours or creates false narratives by circulating old or unrelated material, a government source said.

Secretaries of the Ministries of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Information and Broadcasting and Consumer Affairs were also present.

The States were advised to monitor local LPG supplies on a daily basis, take strict action against violators, and maintain law and order on the ground. States and Union Territories should undertake sufficient awareness drives — both directly and through oil marketing companies — to allay fears and counter false rumours regarding LPG shortages, as the government is taking active measures to ensure adequate availability of LPG for households, the source said.

The meeting was held in view of various reports regarding “public apprehensions about restricted supply of LPG in the domestic market due to developments in West Asia”.

All States were briefed that the LPG Control Order dated 8 March, 2026 directs refineries and petrochemical complexes to maximise LPG production and prioritise domestic LPG supply for household consumers. It was clarified that restrictions have been imposed on the distribution of LPG to commercial establishments, including hotels and restaurants, but not to hospitals or educational institutions.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is running a 24×7 control room by including nodal officers from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Petroleum and Natural Gas. This arrangement has been made to enable fact-checking and the issuance of immediate clarifications to States and UTs on any matter related to the current situation, the source said.
