Lok Sabha witnessed a heated debate over the validity of the member from the panel of chairpersons, appointed by the Speaker, presiding over the discussion on the resolution to remove the Speaker. Several Opposition members, including AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi, Congress’s K.C.Vengopal and Gaurav Gogoi, Saugata Ray and Mahua Moitra of the Trinamool Congress, questioned this. But the chair ruled that the Speaker’s post was not vacant yet and it was valid that the session is presided by someone from the panel. In the Rajya Sabha, the Opposition tried to raise the issue of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the Rajya Sabha yesterday but were denied, with Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan noting that all members were allowed to speak on the issue during the debate on electoral reforms in the last session.
