The Perumbavoor municipality has presented its Budget for the 2026–27 financial year, prioritising infrastructure development and welfare initiatives with a focus on healthcare.

The Budget, presented by municipal vice-chairman Biju John Jacob on Monday (March 9), anticipates a revenue of ₹63.34 crore and expenditure of ₹56.75 crore, leaving a surplus of ₹6.59 crore.

Major development proposals include the construction of a new municipal office building, renovation of the municipal library, and establishment of modern shopping complexes at the Perumbavoor lorry stand and market.

Emphasising the healthcare sector, an amount of ₹3 crore from municipal funds and ₹2 crore from the MLA fund has been earmarked for the comprehensive development of the Perumbavoor Taluk Hospital. A sum of ₹62 lakh has been set aside to provide medicines to patients within the municipal limits, while ₹2.94 crore has been allocated for other activities in the health sector.

In a bid to address the city’s growing challenge of waste management, ₹2 crore has been earmarked under the Kerala Solid Waste Management Project. Additional funds have also been allocated for the construction of mini material collection facilities (MCFs) and for the functioning of the Haritha Karma Sena.

A sum of ₹1 crore has been earmarked for the Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme and for setting up a dog shelter to tackle the stray dog menace faced by the local body.

The Budget has also given importance to social welfare and agriculture with an allocation of ₹79 lakh for the LIFE and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) housing schemes. A sum of ₹1.18 crore has been set aside for development projects for people of the Scheduled Castes. Welfare initiatives for senior citizens include the Vayomithram scheme and renovation of Pakalveedu day-care centres.

As part of women empowerment measures, funds have been earmarked for self-employment initiatives and the distribution of sewing machines.

The agriculture sector has been allotted ₹27 lakh, and animal husbandry ₹18.85 lakh. For improving urban mobility, ₹75 lakh has been set aside for the renovation of roads, bypasses and drainage systems. An amount of ₹70 lakh has been allocated for tarring the KSRTC bus stand yard, while ₹18.5 lakh has been earmarked for constructing open gyms to promote sports and fitness. The discussion on the Budget is scheduled for Wednesday (March 11).
