Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) leaders on Tuesday staged a protest at Vidya Bhavan, alleging violation of norms by the authorities in allotment of posts to teachers recruited through the DSC examination.

Federation’s State secretary G. Ramanna said that there was utter confusion among the candidates with regard to the recruitment process. He said the candidates selected in the open category were being denied posts in that category and instead, they were allotted posts falling under reservations. “This undermines social justice,” he said, alleging that posts meant for ‘reserved’ categories were being diverted to sports, physically handicapped and ex-servicemen quota.

He questioned the authorities for the ‘failure to release district-wise and caste-wise cut-offs and why candidates were denied postings after they were issued call letters and their certificates were verified’. He alleged that the students educated in Navodaya schools were denied posts.

The federation leaders demanded action against the employees of the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) who were running private coaching centres and said immediate and effective steps should be taken to detect fake certificates used during verification process

Meanwhile, leaders of Kula Vyatireka Porata Samithi condemned the reports of the officials’ proposal to allot posts in reservation category to the SC, ST and OBC candidates who were selected on merit.

In a statement, the organisation’s State president O. Nallappa and general secretary A. Malyadri said the move was unconstitutional. They said according to the Constitution, reservations are provided for Backward Classes. However, reservation is only a protective measure for the candidates who cannot succeed through merit.

Citing Supreme Court judgments, they said it is a legally and constitutionally established principle that SC/ST candidates, who are selected on merit, should be counted in the general category. “In this case, the officials’ decision amounts to a violation of the constitutional right to equality, defying the Supreme Court verdicts and obstructing the legitimate opportunities of candidates from the Scheduled categories,” they said.

They urged the government to withdraw the decision. They warned of a State-wide priotest if the government ignored their pleas.
