The five guarantees provided by the state government have worked as tools of women’s empowerment, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs H.K. Patil, and Gadag district in-charge minister, said in Gadag on Sunday (March 8, 2026).

He was speaking on the occasion of International Women’s Day being observed at The Cotton Sail Society. The event was organised by the taluk guarantees implementation authority.

“The guarantees were introduced to make women financially self-reliant and to root out extreme poverty. They have achieved significant success towards that goal,” the minister said.

He said former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had amended the Constitution to introduce women’s reservation in urban and rural local bodies.

He said that one of the objectives of the 12th century revolution led by Basavanna was emancipation of women. “Nearly a thousand years ago, Basavanna sought to provide freedom and equality to women. He spent a lifetime fighting for it. Till very recently, women did not have the right to worship idols. However, the situation is slowly changing,” he said.

G.S. Patil, MLA and Chairman of Karnataka State Mineral Development Corporation urged women beneficiaries to write letters to CM Siddaramaiah about how the guarantees had helped them.

Some people are opposing the guarantees without valid reasons, but the women of the State know their benefits.. We need to spread awareness about the benefits of these schemes among the common people.

Guarantee authority district chairman B.B. Asuti, chairman of Karnataka State Decentralisation Scheme and Development Committee D.R. Patil, DC C.N. Shridhar, SP Rohan Jagadish and others were present.
