Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy appealed to All India Majlis‑e‑Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi to support the government’s initiatives to develop the Old City, particularly the Musi rejuvenation works and the proposed Metro Rail expansion.

He said the government has sufficient funds for the Metro Rail project and assured that the Old City would receive all necessary infrastructure facilities, including Metro connectivity. He stated that land acquisition required for road expansion and the Metro Rail network in the area has already been completed.

The Chief Minister made the announcement after inaugurating the renovated Bum-Rukn-Ud-Dowla lake. He further said that the erstwhile Nizam rulers had constructed reservoirs with the support of engineer Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya to prevent flooding of the Musi.

The present government, he said, is committed to protecting the city’s historic heritage, including Charminar, Golconda Fort, Osmania General Hospital and Falaknuma Palace, while continuing with development projects such as the construction of the new Osmania Hospital building.

Highlighting the significance of the Musi rejuvenation programme, the Chief Minister warned that the city could lose its historic glory if encroachments on lakes, ponds, canals and parks are not removed. The government has already taken strict measures to restore several water bodies, including the well-known Bathukamma Kunta Lake, he said, adding that the effort is part of a broader plan to protect natural spaces and provide better recreational facilities for citizens.

Mr. Revanth Reddy said the government plans to create a ‘lake economy’ along the Musi River riverfront. As part of the plan, night bazaars and business stalls will be established, with self-help groups running several outlets.
