A truck driver suffered minor injuries after the vehicle caught fire on Bypass Road at Thanigai Polur village near Arakkonam town in Ranipet on Saturday.

Police said that the driver, R. Velusamy, 38, a native of Tiruvallur, managed to jump off the vehicle before the driver’s cabin caught fire. The truck was carrying silt from Tiruttani town to Sunguvarchatram village near Sriperumbudur to level an open plot in the area.

The driver stopped the vehicle and jumped out after he was alerted by motorists. He suffered minor injuries. The locals alerted the fire and rescue services officials from Arakkonam, who put out the flames. They battled for nearly an hour to bring the fire under control.
