CM Stalin releases Tamil Nadu Shipbuilding Policy, T.N. Agroforestry Policy 2026

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Wednesday (February 4, 2026) released the Tamil Nadu Shipbuilding Policy 2026 and the Tamil Nadu Agroforestry Policy 2026. He also inaugurated, through video conference from the Secretariat in Chennai, completed projects and laid the foundation stone for new infrastructure initiatives of various departments.

Mr. Stalin laid the foundation stone for the first phase of works to develop the Guindy Eco Park being carried out by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare. The park will be developed at an estimated cost of ₹37.85 crore with various features including theme gardens, a children’s play area, bird habitat islands, herbal gardens, an aviary habitat centre, lawns, viewing decks and gazebos. He also inaugurated a 30-metre-high Super Tree Tower at the Kalaignar Centenary Park built at a cost of ₹11.84 crore with nine levels.

Under the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department, Mr. Stalin inaugurated six completed projects worth ₹1,404. 27 crore undertaken by the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage (TWAD) Board, 16 completed projects worth ₹529.54 crore by the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB), 93 completed projects worth ₹349.76 crore by the Directorate of Municipal Administration, 76 completed projects worth ₹389.93 crore by the Directorate of Town Panchayats, and 38 completed projects worth ₹59.27 crore by the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC).

He also laid the foundation stone for nine new projects worth ₹27.59 crore by the GCC, two new projects worth ₹495.29 crore by the CMWSSB, and eight new projects worth ₹132.48 crore by the Directorate of Municipal Administration. He also unveiled the name board of the Loop Road in the Teynampet zone, which was renamed ‘Sindhanai Sirpi Singaravelar Salai’.

MoU for tyre manufacturing plant

In the presence of the Chief Minister, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Department of Industries and Investment Promotion and MRF to set up a new tyre manufacturing plant at the SIPCOT Iluppaikudi Industrial Park in Sivaganga district. The project involves an investment commitment of ₹5,300 crore and is expected to generate 1,000 jobs.

He also inaugurated 200 police quarters, two police stations and eight other buildings for the Police Department constructed at a cost of ₹75.80 crore, as well as modern classrooms set up at 22 police training centres at a cost of ₹15 crore. He also handed over allotment orders for 2,138 housing tenements constructed by the Tamil Nadu Housing Board to the Tamil Nadu Police Department.

Under the Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Department, the Chief Minister inaugurated two newly-constructed ‘Thozhi’ working women’s hostels built at a cost of ₹10.38 crore in Sivaganga and Theni districts, and a new building constructed at a cost of ₹7 crore at the Government Children’s Home in Thattaparai of Thoothukudi district.

Under the Youth Welfare and Sports Development Department, Mr. Stalin inaugurated 14 sports infrastructure buildings constructed at a cost of ₹42.94 crore and laid the foundation stone for three new projects worth ₹37.84 crore. Mr. Stalin also inaugurated several buildings constructed under the Revenue and Disaster Management Department.
