The festival of Holi turned tragic for the families of three boys, aged between 12 and 16 years, who drowned in a water tank at Chikkavaram Kandrika village in Gannavaram mandal of Krishna district on March 3 (Tuesday).

Preliminary information suggests that the three friends, D. Naveen Kumar, Venkata Joseph and Sai, all residents of the same village, had gone to wash up after playing Holi, Circle Inspector Siva Prasad said.

When the boys did not return home by 6 p.m., their families began searching across the village. On learning from a few residents that the trio had been seen near the tank, the police intensified the search in that area and later recovered the bodies. “It appears that one of them accidentally slipped into the deep tank, and the other two may have drowned while attempting to rescue him,” he said.

All three bodies have been retrieved.
