Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee vice-president Kolanukonda Shivaji on Sunday criticised Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni) for what he described as a failure to address critical infrastructure concerns during his recent review meetings.

In a statement, Mr. Shivaji referred to key pending projects in the city, including the proposed second flyover at Singh Nagar, the elevated corridor from Novotel Hotel to Nidamanuru and the Vijayawada East Bypass Road.

He said the existing flyover at Singh Nagar was heavily congested, causing severe inconvenience to daily commuters. He sought a clear stand from the government on the construction of a second flyover to ease the persistent bottleneck and improve traffic flow in the area.

Mr. Shivaji alleged that the government was deliberately delaying the National Highways Authority of India proposed elevated corridor from Novotel Hotel to Nidamanuru. He claimed that by citing the Metro Rail project as a hurdle, the administration was keeping the Detailed Project Report under wraps and not pursuing the required funds. He maintained that expansion of this stretch was essential to decongest Vijayawada and ensure smoother transit.

The Congress leader also urged the MP to secure the necessary clearances and Central funding from the Union Government to expedite the Vijayawada East Bypass project. He criticised what he termed as silence over the prepared DPRs, stating that the delay was affecting the people of Vijayawada. He reiterated his demand that the National Highways Authority of India prioritise these stretches in its upcoming project cycle.
