Writers, education activists and other stakeholders urged the State government to publish the State Education Policy (SEP) report, putting it up for debate in the public domain, following which it has to be passed in the legislature.

A resolution to this effect was adopted at a symposium on ‘Status of School Education in Karnataka’, jointly organised by the Kannada Development Authority (KDA) and the Research Institute for Policy Formulation on Saturday at Gandhi Bhavan.

“The State Education Policy Commission has submitted the SEP report to the government on August 8, 2025. This important policy, which is in line with the aspirations of democracy and the constitution, was expected to be released in the public domain. This is because students, teachers, parents, guardians, educationists, and all citizens of the State, who are participants in the implementation of the education policy, have the right to know the intentions, proposals, and recommendations of the policy,” the resolution said.

“The acceptance, approval, implementation, review, etc. of this SEP should not be the sole purview of political power or parties and bureaucracy. It is very important to formulate a consensus opinion of everyone through public discussion, dialogue, open criticism and formulate measures to implement the same. We need to be careful not to repeat hasty, unilateral decisions, as it happened during the implementation of the National Education Policy (2020),” it further said.

KDA chairperson Purushottama Bilimale, SEP Commission member Rajendra Chenni and educationist Niranjanaradhya V.P., were among those present.
