The Kerala High Court division bench overturns single judge’s 15-day interim stay The Kerala High Court division bench on Friday set aside the interim order of the single judge staying the release of The Kerala Story 2 for 15 days, paving the way for the film’s release as scheduled today.

The division bench comprising Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari and Justice P.V. Balakrishnan passed the order after hearing the matter at length through the evening. On Thursday, the single judge bench of Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas, in the writ petitions filed by Sreedev Namboodiri and Freddy V. Kerala Story 2 release path clears

A division bench of the Kerala High Court has allowed the release of the film Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond and stayed the single judge’s order that had banned its release. The film was expected to release in theatres across the country today.

On Thursday, a single bench had stayed its release following a petition challenging its certification. Single bench judge Bechu Kurian Thomas had directed the CBFC to re-examine the certification granted to the film.

About the case

On Thursday, the Kerala High Court directed the Censor Board to re-examine The Kerala Story 2 and make a decision. This action was taken following a complaint alleging that the film contained hate-fueled content. A division bench of Justices VG Arun and PP Haneefa issued the order. The High Court intervened on a petition alleging that the film contained scenes that spread hatred and could destroy communal harmony.
