Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, paid tributes to its former Chairman-cum-Managing Director, J. Mehra, who passed away on 24 February, 2026 in New Delhi.

Mr. Mehra joined RINL in January 1992 as Director (Operations) and became CMD on 1 June 1993. During his tenure, he successfully commissioned the second phase of the plant and stabilised production in key units such as coke ovens, sinter plant and blast furnace, laying strong systems and procedures that strengthened the organisation during critical years. His leadership played a significant role in steering RINL towards operational stability and growth, the RINL officials said in a release.
