Senior journalist Tanuja Naik was honoured with Avva Seva Trust’s endowment award at an ceremony and a seminar organised by the Gadag district unit of Karnataka Union of Working Journalists in Gadag on Thursday.

Chairman of Legislative Council Basavaraj Horatti who has instituted the award in the name of his mother Gangavva Shivalingappa Horatti, said that with the aim of encouraging woman journalists, the award is being given.

Emphasising that nothing can buy a mother’s love, he called upon everyone to take care of their parents with love and affection. He also promised to give ₹5 lakh as grants under local area development fund for the Patrika Bhavan.

CM’s Media Advisor K.V. Prabhakar commended Mr. Horatti for instituting the award in a mother’s name as it was the mother who is the inspiration for the achievements of all.

He emphasised the need for journalists to act as a bridge in facilitating rural development.

Presiding over the inaugural session, president of Gadag district KUWJ Raju M. Hebballi urged Mr. Prabhakar to provide special grants for the construction of the first floor of the Patrika Bhavan.
