Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu criticised YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leadership and called their regime between 2019-24 as ‘dark days for the State’. After laying foundation stone for Veligonda feeder canal lining works worth ₹456 crore in Markapuram on Wednesday, he said, “The State was destroyed during the the YSRCP regime.”

Addressing the public, he said, “We have formed the NDA alliance with Jana Sena Party (JSP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the reconstruction of the State and have received your blessings. The YSRCP did not get a single seat from Araku to the combined Prakasam districts. In the next elections, make NDA win 100 per cent in Prakasam and Markapuram districts.”

“We kept our word by establishing Markapuram district to avoid the hassle of travelling 150 km to Ongole. We have also established Madanapalle and Polavaram districts. The backward areas faced difficulties due to lack of drinking water and other facilities. If I had continued as the Chief Minister in 2019, we would have completed Veligonda project and provided water by 2021,” Mr. Naidu said.

“The former Chief Minister played a false drama that Veligonda works were finished and dedicated the project to the nation without completing them. If the project works had really been completed, there would have been no need for me to come here today. He cheated the people by cutting the ribbon for the incomplete project,” Mr. Naidu claimed.

“The previous government has not even spared Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy. As many as 20 crore laddus were made and sold with adulterated ghee made with chemicals at Tirumala temple. Now, they are trying to allege our brand Heritage which has nothing to do with it. The dictatorship rule destroyed the State with ganja and land grabbing during the five-year term,” Mr. Naidu alleged.

“Today, the YSRCP leaders are engaging in politics without coming to the Assembly to discuss public issues. They are threatening to demand opposition status. How will that happen without the support of the people?” he questioned, criticising former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s demand to confer ‘Leader of the Opposition’ status in the Assembly.
