Officials of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) conducted inspections at milk distribution centres at various places across the State on Tuesday (February 24, 2026).

This follows the the tragic incident in which four people died allegedly after consuming adulterated milk and few others were hospitalised in Rajamahendravaram.

“As per the directions of Food Safety Commissioner G. Verrapandian, raids were conducted on milk booths across the State. We collected packaged and loose milk samples at several points,” said Assistant Food Controller B. Srinivas.

“We inspected the loose milk sale points, collection and storage points and collected samples, under the supervision of NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha” Mr. Srinivas told The Hindu.

Raids were conducted on the milk booths located at Currency Nagar, Prasadampadu, Pantakula Road, Fun Times Road Krishna Lanka and other places in Vijayawada, the Assistant Food Controller said.

A.P. State Joint Food Controller N. Purnachandar Rao said that multiple teams conducted raids on the milk collection, storage and sale points across the State.

“The Rapid Response Teams led by Food Safety in-charge Director Neelakanta Reddy collected milk samples, which would be sent to food laboratories in Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and other places,” Mr. Purnachandar Rao said.

As per FSSAI Standards aluminium and plastic tankers and cans should not be used for supply and storing milk and other dairy products, and only stainless steel cans should be used.

Milk traders should maintain the data of the farmers, feed supply, water being given to cattle and the water mixed in milk.

“The tankers and cans should be cleaned thoroughly and maintain hygienic conditions in collection, storage and distribution points, Mr. Srinivas said.

Steps should be taken to prevent heavy metal substances and chemicals in milk, failing which public will suffer with severe health problems. Those who resort to adulteration of milk are liable for life imprisonment, the Assistant Food Controller warned.

Milk traders should take all measures for proper maintenance of collection and storage points, Mr. Purnachandar Rao added.
