Two persons, including a home guard attached to the Santosh Nagar Traffic Police Station, were killed after a water tanker rammed into the motorcycle they were travelling on in Banjara Hills on Monday morning.

The deceased were identified as Hussaini, 45, a home guard, and Akshita, 20, a chef from Vizianagaram district. Police said Hussaini was working part time as a bike taxi rider.

According to the Banjara Hills police, the incident took place at about 9.30 a.m. opposite Vengal Rao Park, near Road No. 10, as the motorcycle was proceeding towards Punjagutta. Akshita had booked a ride through a bike taxi application and was travelling towards her destination with Hussain when the tanker, which was coming from behind, allegedly attempted to overtake near the left curve close to GVK Mall.

During the manoeuvre, the tanker hit the motorcycle. Police said the rear wheels of the vehicle ran over Akshita. Both sustained multiple injuries and died on the spot.

Akshita had recently come to Hyderabad to obtain a medical certificate as she was preparing to go abroad. She was also visiting a friend in the city at the time of the accident.

The tanker driver was identified as Khaja Pasha and the vehicle owner Mahmood. Police said the driver was not under the influence of alcohol but was driving at an excessive speed and in a negligent manner. A case has been registered and investigation is underway.
