As many as four elderly people, including two women, have died from anuria after suffering from acute renal failure over the past 48 hours in Rajamahendravaram City.

The illness of all four deceased is linked to the health consequences from consumption of milk that was supplied by the same milk vendor, claimed East Godavari District Collector Kirthi Chekuri. At least twelve people have suffered from anuria and acute renal failure reportedly after consuming adulterated milk on Sunday.

The deceased have been identified as N. Seshagirirao, (72) and Radha Krishna Murthy (74) who died in private hospitals. Thadi Krishnaveni, (76) and Thadi Ramani (58) died in Government General Hospital in Kakinada City. Three of them died since the early hours of Monday (February 23, 2026).

12 hospitalised

Speaking at a press conference on Monday (February 23), Ms. Kirthi has stated; “All the 12 persons have been admitted to various hospitals with anuria and acute renal failure are from the two areas — Swaroop Nagar and Chowdeswari Nagar areas in Rajamahendravaram City — and all of them have consumed milk supplied by the same vendor”.

“The people in the age group of 50-70 and below five years are becoming prone to anuria. A state-level expert team has collected blood samples from 73 families who consumed milk supplied by the same vendor. The samples have been sent to the forensic laboratory for tests”, said Ms. Kirthi. The experts have also collected the fodder offered to the cattle for the tests.

The vendor had supplied milk to the 108 families in the two streets, from where all patients reported anuria and acute renal failure.

In the same press conference, Superintendent of Police D. Narasimha Kishore said: “The same milk vendor had procured milk from about 46 farmers and supplied to the 106 families”. On the other hand, the post-mortem report of one of the deceased is likely to disclose more clarity on the exact cause for the anuria cases.
