The death of a 29-year-old pregnant woman and her newborn at the Government Taluk Hospital, Pattambi, has triggered a controversy with her family alleging medical negligence and demanding action against the doctors who treated her.

Noushija, wife of Nasar Basha from Thrithala, was admitted to the hospital on February 16 for delivery. On February 19, she reportedly developed heavy bleeding and breathing difficulties, following which doctors referred her to the Government Medical College Hospital, Thrissur.

However, her relatives took her to a private hospital at Vaniyamkulam. She was alleged to have died before reaching the hospital. The family claimed that she had already died while she was still at the Taluk Hospital on Friday.

They further alleged that treatment was delayed for three days due to the absence of an anaesthesiologist and that she endured severe pain during that time. The family also accused hospital authorities of refusing to release her medical records.
