The Hyderabad Disaster Response & Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA), on Saturday, secured nearly seven acres of land earmarked for parks and other public utilities at Kondapur.

The land falls under survey numbers 78 to 93 in Rajarajeshwari Nagar Colony of Kondapur and part of a layout consisting of 2,059 plots approved by the village panchayat in 1993. As per the layout plan, five acres were allocated for a government junior college, about one acre for a school, and over an acre for parks, along with land reserved for community facilities.

However, portions of these lands were allegedly encroached upon. Around 1,000 square yards of the nearly one acre land earmarked for school had been used for constructing an apartment complex. Land allocated for the community hall (2,181 square yards) was also reportedly occupied by private shops and temporary structures.

Residents’ welfare representatives of Rajarajeshwari Nagar filed a complaint through HYDRAA’s Prajavani platform, alleging that influential individuals were behind the encroachments. They said several showrooms, and grocery stores came up on the encroached land, and even parts of internal roads had been occupied by them.

Acting on the complaint and following the directions of Commissioner A.V. Ranganath, HYDRAA officials conducted a field inspection along with departments concerned. The team confirmed that the land was indeed reserved for parks and public utilities as per the approved layout.

Authorities subsequently cleared encroachments and installed fencing to protect the land. HYDRAA also placed signboards identifying the sites as public utility spaces intended for residents, the statement said.
